Last Thursday evening, a sense of excitement hung in the air at the packed and buzzing Brabanthallen during the HeadFirst Group – Best of Champions. As co-main sponsor of The Dutch Masters, HeadFirst Group welcomed colleagues, partners, suppliers and business associates to its own Lounge and the Grandstand. Even before the first rider entered the arena, the evening was already all about meeting, catching up and networking. A perfect prelude to top-class sport at the highest level.

Inspiration in the Talent Room

The energy in the Talent Room was almost palpable. This wasn’t a traditional speaker programme, but a series of moments that drew the audience straight into the world of elite sport and top-level performance. Pieter van den Hoogenband kicked things off with stories that instantly transported you to the edge of the pool, where every hundredth of a second counts. He demonstrated how confidence and teamwork not only made his Olympic medals possible, but also form the basis of his role as chef de mission. Next, sports psychologist Jesse Dercksen took the audience to a place you don’t normally get to visit: the mind of a top athlete. He showed how mental strength is not an abstract concept, but a skill that you train, hone and maintain. His examples — from pre-match nerves to regaining control under pressure — made it clear just how fine the line is between a good performance and a world-class performance.

And then came Anky van Grunsven. With her characteristic calm and precision, she allowed the audience to feel just how unique the partnership between human and horse truly is. Not brute force, but an almost wordless dialogue in which timing, trust and intuition determine whether you reach great heights together. Chairperson Jan Roelfs brought these three stories together in a natural way. Not as separate anecdotes, but as a single, continuous insight: that talent only comes to fruition when collaboration, mental sharpness and adaptability reinforce one another.

Principles of elite sport at the heart of HeadFirst Group

The insights from the Talent Room aligned seamlessly with HeadFirst Group’s identity. As an international HR tech service provider, the organisation deals with talent, team dynamics and flexibility on a daily basis. The parallels with elite sport are therefore abundantly clear. Just as in sport, business is all about focusing on what really matters, the willingness to learn continuously and the ability to make the best choices even under pressure. HeadFirst Group believes that performance stems from collaboration, responsibility and the space to grow – values that are also central to elite sport. The sponsorship of The Dutch Masters underlines that connection between sport and the world of work.

Willem Greve shines with an exceptional performance

That evening in the arena, it became clear how top-level sport and agility come together. The Best of Champions section, in which riders ride each other’s horses, demands extremely quick adaptation. In just a few seconds, a rider must sense how a new horse moves, reacts and responds to the reins, and then deliver a top performance on an unfamiliar course. Willem Greve made a profound impression there. With four clear rounds, he demonstrated how confidence, technique and intuition can come into perfect balance. His performance was not only a sporting highlight, but also a powerful example of what is possible when talent, preparation and mental sharpness come together.

Where top-level sport and connections meet

What made this evening special did not take place solely in the arena. In the lounges and skyboxes, sport, entrepreneurship and networking came together in an atmosphere of openness and curiosity. Whilst top performances were being delivered on the sand, conversations were taking place outside that form the basis for new collaborations and insights.

Anyone who thinks that equestrian sport takes place exclusively in the arena saw the opposite proven during this evening. It is precisely outside the arena that relationships are built, ideas exchanged and the foundation laid for both sporting and business success.

Elite sport as a source of inspiration for corporate challenges

HeadFirst Group sees elite sport as a rich source of insights that are directly applicable in the corporate context. The collaboration with the Topsport Community further reinforces this. By bringing together athletes, scientists and business professionals, discussions arise about concentration, performance, team dynamics and development – discussions that are directly relevant to issues surrounding talent management, customer-focused working and team performance. This cross-pollination demonstrates that the principles behind elite sport are universal. Focus, adaptability, collaboration and continuous improvement: these are values that make a difference in every organisation and which HeadFirst Group applies daily to help professionals and clients move forward.

An evening where everything came together

Top-level sport, talent, inspiration and strong connections: the evening during The Dutch Masters brought all these elements together naturally. The performances in the arena were impressive, but the conversations and encounters outside it gave the evening its real depth. Performance may take place on the piste, but its foundations are laid in the collaboration, connection and agility that are forged outside it.
