 We have an exciting position for a Senior Data Scientist to join the Advanced Machine Learning Team which forms part of the GM-ship of Artificial Intelligence in the VP-ship of Computational Science and Digital Innovation in Shell’s Projects and Technology organization. Our team works on developing Advanced Machine Learning solutions for various business problems across Shell’s lines of business, in particular gas and power trading, new energies and windfarm optimization.

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will work across project teams providing high-level guidance and oversight, as well as stepping in hands-on when needed. As a senior member of the team, you will be responsible for ensuring that we apply best practices in research and development and deliver solutions that deliver value to the end-users. You will be working with the stakeholders and subject matter experts of the various businesses as well as external strategic partners, both commercial and academia. You will also contribute to further grow the capabilities and broaden the expertise in the team. On a day to day basis, you will work closely with the Principal AI Researcher of the team. This role provides an interface and liaises between the power trading business and the Advanced Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence team.


You will:
• Translate complex business problems into projects with clearly defined scope
• Use innovative research to influence relevant products and partner teams across Shell, and to have company and societal impact
• Design, implement and deliver Advanced Machine Learning solutions to solve a wide variety of business problems
• Mentor junior Data Scientists and guide them in project delivery
• Provide subject matter expertise in Machine Learning
• Build relationships with internal project stakeholders and external partners, both commercial and academia
• Be a proactive communicator who is excited to share your work and present the insights and findings
• Be articulate and compelling in describing your ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences and back up your message with visualizations
• Stay current on state-of-the-art approaches and new Advanced Machine Learning techniques


Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science or Operations Research
• PhD in relevant domain is an advantage
• Candidates ideally have some prior work experience as a quant / energy trading analyst in the power markets, and / or experience with modeling and scheduling of batteries and renewables
• Experience across the project life-cycle from ideation to delivery
• Hands-on experience of building Machine Learning models in Python
• Experience working in AzureML and / or AWS SageMaker is an advantage
• Ability to work on complex problems and deliver business critical solutions
• Track record of delivering on and leading projects
• Excellent communications skills and experience working in agile teams
• Track record of conference / journal publications is an advantage
