Freelance Network/Firewall Engineer
Reports to: Team lead Infrastructure
Purpose
The Network & Firewall Engineer is responsible for ensuring stability, integrity and continuity of the campus, datacenter and WAN networks. The Network & Firewall engineer designs, implements and improves these services, which includes evaluating new technologies, preparing changes in the technical infrastructure, deploying new components and solving second and third-line disruptions and incidents. The Network & Firewall Engineer will liaison with the CDC on vulnerabilities and other security risks in the environment.
Position in the organization:
The Network & Firewall engineer is part of the Infrastructure team.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Responsible for the Global Network infrastructure:
- Compliancy, Security baselines and Patching
Responsible for the Network infrastructure environment:
- Maintenance, Monitoring, Installing/Configuring
- Back-up/Restore
- Responsible for global Firewall policy baseline
- Report and take action on Network and Firewall compliance/security incidents
- Solving 3rd line issues
- Designing new network environments
- Monitoring network infrastructure
- Automation/Scripting (Ansible)
Knowledge, education, skills and experience
Knowledge of the Network & Firewall landscape:
- FortiManager
- FortiAnalyser
- F5 WAF, SSO and Load balancer
- Fortigate Firewalls
- LAN and WLAN
Must haves:
- Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching
- Cisco CCNA/CCNP
- Fortinet Network Security Professional Level 4 or 5
Need to have but can be done when on the job
- Ansible Basics: Automation Technical Overview
- Red Hat Ansible for Network Automation
3-5 years of experience in managing enterprise networks.
Dimensions
- Directly responsible for: managing the Firewalls, Switches, Access Points, Load balancers
- No Financial responsibility
- Impact and influence: indirect impact on Viterra Business through successfully maintaining the Network and Firewall environments.
- Key relationship / customers: IT Security, Business Users, Windows Engineers, Infrastructure Architect.
- Strong knowledge and experience of global infrastructure LAN\WAN environments.
Ability to communicate with executive, technical teams and suppliers.
